Launched in 2009, following the Lehman Brothers collapse and the international financial crisis that followed, BLACK was Comme des Garçons’ answer to the changes and needs of society at the time with a collection of affordable and timeless pieces. Its cutting-edge perspective, high-end tailoring cuts and the ubiquitous use of black reflects Rei Kawakubo's attention to express her ecletic personality. The line has been the subject of collaborations with Nike and Filip Pagowski.
